Alviso's autumn wetlands: a boardwalk and time to observe
Free park entry; stay on marked paths rather than chasing pink-pond photos
Want some company?Start an outing with this article’s coverAlviso Marina County Park in a 2013 reference photo; it shows the wetland setting, not current trail access.
Start at Alviso Marina's 1195 Hope Street entrance for a short wetland visit. County picnic areas and refuge trails have different rules; specific birds and pink water are not guaranteed.
The parking lot, including overnight parking, closes October 15–18 for event setup and breakdown. The free Day on the Bay festival still welcomes visitors on October 17, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; check official event transport details instead of planning a normal drive-and-park visit.
Identify where walking is permitted
Park entry is free; the park opens 8 AM–sunset and trails at sunrise. Dogs may use county-park paths and picnic areas but not refuge trails, levees or boardwalks. Walk bicycles on boardwalks, stay away from pond edges and do not fly drones.
Editorial suggestion: leave room to observe
- Check trail closures and use a short open out-and-back section rather than assuming a complete salt-pond loop.
- Observe from a distance, using binoculars if available; do not feed wildlife or leave marked paths.
- Bring water, sun protection and a wind layer. Return another day if wind or wet conditions are unsuitable; photos do not guarantee the pond's color.
Choose an event with confirmed times for a separate outing.
