There is no single enrollment system for every East Bay city. Confirm the county and full address, identify the district serving your child's grade, then compare school programs. County directories are starting points, not enrollment forms that assign schools, and this guide does not rank schools.

Check the address and grade together

In Alameda County, start with ACOE's school and district directory and map; in Contra Costa County, use CCCOE's district directory to reach district websites. Check the district boundary with the full street address, then use that district's School Locator for individual schools. Elementary, middle and high schools may be served by different districts. City names, ZIP codes and property-site labels do not replace verification. Ask the enrollment office about new streets, boundary addresses or unclear map results.

Continue through the appropriate district entry point

  • Oakland: ChooseOUSD searches schools by grade and address, with applications through EnrollWise. For immediate current-year enrollment, contact the Enrollment Office to confirm the current process.
  • Berkeley: the Admissions Office manages enrollment and assignment. Check elementary and middle school zones separately and use the relevant grade-level process; a zone does not guarantee one particular school.
  • Fremont: the new-student Aeries enrollment account is separate from Parent Portal. Ask the district to verify an unrecognized address. The page still contains older school-year wording, so confirm the correct year and follow-up appointment steps before submitting.
  • Mt. Diablo: use the Enrollment Center's School Finder for the address and grade, then follow centralized enrollment. The map is a guide; confirm special boundary cases and the final school with the district.
  • San Ramon Valley: use the School Site Locator, prepare documents, apply online and complete review. The district notes that schools or grade levels may be full; an address-based school is not a guaranteed seat.

Handle enrollment, transfers and school visits separately

At review, Berkeley, Mt. Diablo and San Ramon Valley provided 2026–27 enrollment entry points; recheck the calendar for the next school year. New families should use official lists for residency, age and educational records and submit documents only through official channels. For a school change within a district, check intradistrict procedures; across districts, check interdistrict procedures with both districts for permits, seats and decision timing. A submitted application is not a completed assignment.

Use the district's school directory to reach school websites and book visits. Ask about language and learning support, classes, after-school care and transport. Obtain permission before entering a campus. If standard residency documents are missing or interpretation is needed, ask enrollment staff about alternative verification and support; do not send documents to strangers.

Universities and community colleges do not use K–12 assignment

UC Berkeley separates first-year and transfer applicants on its undergraduate application page. Its visit page links to tours and admissions presentations, with separate booking checks. Peralta's enrollment page lists Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney and Merritt: explore each campus and its courses, choose a college, complete enrollment, then register for classes in Campus Solutions. County directories list additional community colleges. Check college eligibility, teaching locations, costs and visits separately; local residence does not establish admission or free tuition.

I plan [new enrollment / an intradistrict transfer / an interdistrict transfer] for a student in [grade], starting [school year / month]. Please confirm address verification, the responsible district, documents, the current application round, review steps and school visits. I will provide the full address and student documents only through the designated official channel.
