Pair ancient objects that reward close reading with an unhurried garden walk. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Municipal Rose Garden are separate locations. Give the museum sufficient time before walking through the neighborhood to the garden. Rose blooms vary by season, and the garden also makes a pleasant place for a short rest.

Plan the museum first, then the garden

  • Cost: the museum requires admission; ordinary visits to the Municipal Rose Garden are free. Food and transport are separate. Read ticket cancellation and change rules before buying.
  • Duration: allow 3–4 hours for the museum, neighborhood transfer and a short garden walk. Visit only the museum if you prefer to read exhibits in depth.
  • Arrival: the museum entrance is at 1660 Park Ave, with parking on other sides of the block. Check the construction map first; transit arrivals still require a walk.
  • Mobility: galleries span multiple levels. A wheelchair platform lift is available but explicitly cannot carry strollers. Confirm wheelchair fit and assistance in advance.

From ancient life to a neighborhood garden

Take the route one stop at a time

Museum, park exit and rose garden

The first two stops are at the museum and its grounds. The third requires a separate neighborhood walk; follow open paths and crossing signals.

Stop 1 of 3

Stop 1: an unhurried Egyptian Museum visit

Collect a guide and confirm access between levels, then focus on daily life, writing or beliefs. Explain to children that displays include funerary culture and let them skip anything uncomfortable. Leave space around objects, follow photography rules and avoid rushing to reach the next stop.

Stop 2: pause near the Rosicrucian Park exit

Pause in an accessible open area after leaving the galleries and check directions, crossings and everyone's energy. Construction may change parking and pedestrian routes; follow the marked detours. This is a good place to finish if companions are tired, without continuing to the garden merely to complete the route.

Stop 3: Municipal Rose Garden

Navigate to the Municipal Rose Garden entrance near Naglee and Dana Avenues, using sidewalks and designated crossings. Compare flower shapes and colors from marked paths, staying out of beds and maintenance areas. Even outside peak bloom, pause in the shade and plan your return to your car or transit stop.

Plan strollers, weather and the return trip separately

Families with young children should ask about stroller storage and access between levels; the wheelchair lift cannot be used as a stroller elevator. Shorten the neighborhood walk or arrange pickup for those needing easier routes. Keep indoor exhibits in rain and shorten the garden walk in heat, bringing water. Check parking restrictions before returning to your car, since museum and garden hours differ.
