Coyote Point combines sails, birds and aircraft approaching SFO in one bay view. Walk a little and pause often rather than covering the whole park. Start with part of the promenade, then choose the marina or separately ticketed CuriOdyssey according to wind, energy and time. Either outing works on its own.

Separate park costs from museum admission

  • Cost: the outdoor walk requires no museum ticket, but vehicle entry costs extra. CuriOdyssey, rentals and classes are charged separately.
  • Duration: allow 2–3 hours for the outdoor route. Add time for CuriOdyssey and shorten the walk if visiting the museum.
  • Arrival: navigate to Coyote Point Recreation Area and follow parking signs. Transit riders should check the walk from the stop and the return stop before leaving.
  • Access: the promenade has paved areas and improved beach access, but sand, slopes and marina edges differ. Shorten the route to suit your mobility needs.
Check playground construction before leaving

As of September 26, 2026, Magic Mountain Playground, nearby picnic sites and the adjacent parking area are closed for construction. This route does not depend on the playground; check the official closure page for reopening updates.

Promenade, marina and an optional museum

Locate your parking area on the park map first. Retrace your route as needed; the museum is an optional separate visit.

Stop 1 of 3

Stop 1: Coyote Point Promenade

Start on the paved promenade with a clear view of aircraft and the bay. Take a short walk to assess the wind before going farther. Children can observe sails and birds. Shallow water is not an invitation to wade; beach time and water activities need separate checks of current conditions.

Stop 2: Coyote Point Marina

Follow open paths toward the marina to observe masts, boats and shoreline birds. There is no need to reach the end of the breakwater. Turn back if surfaces do not suit a wheelchair or stroller, keep away from water edges and leave birds undisturbed. Return to the parking area if the wind builds.

Stop 3 of 3

Stop 3: optional CuriOdyssey or departure

If energy and ticket availability permit, make CuriOdyssey a separate science and wildlife visit. Check opening, admission and remaining visiting time before heading over. Otherwise rest in an open area and leave. Do not assume membership parking benefits apply throughout the park or take shortcuts through construction barriers.

Wind, family pacing and getting home

Bring a windproof layer, water and sun protection for the exposed waterfront, and picnic only in permitted open areas. In rain or strong wind, keep just a confirmed museum visit; CuriOdyssey also has outdoor areas. Work backward from park closing and return transit, allowing time to walk back from the water.
