Bothe sits on Highway 29/128 north of St. Helena and south of Calistoga. The state park page lists 8 am–sunset day-use hours, a current $10 vehicle fee, and acceptance of the California State Library Parks Pass. If you borrow one, confirm its coverage.

Editorial plan: two hours in the forest and an hour to rest

  • Read trail and fire notices at the entrance, get a map, and choose an open out-and-back section of Redwood Trail. Do not make mileage the goal.
  • Observe three bark or leaf shapes while staying on the trail. Return to the day-use area early if the surface is slippery.
  • Have your packed lunch in a permitted picnic spot, then follow the planned return. Allow a Highway 29 travel buffer instead of adding several reservations.
Do not assume October swimming or dog access on trails

The pool is seasonal and is not part of this October plan. Dogs are limited to designated developed areas and cannot use trails; confirm the exact areas before bringing one. Stoves and barbecues must follow current fire restrictions.
