At Filoli, it is easy to chase the flowers in someone else’s photo. Blooms change, but the house’s proportions, garden rooms formed by hedges and the quieter landscape beyond them reward attention in any season. Spending half a day here reveals more than taking one picture before rushing elsewhere.

Choose your date before booking estate admission

  • Allow 2.5–4 hours. General admission includes the House, Garden, redwoods and trails, plus parking. Check separate charges for food and special events.
  • Check the official calendar and booking page for dated prices, last entry and extended hours. Do not assume an evening-event ticket covers a regular daytime visit.
  • Filoli recommends advance tickets for visitors and members, with check-in during the selected one-hour window. Weekends and flowering seasons may sell out; choose another date if needed.

Take the route one stop at a time

Near to far: extend the visit as energy allows

Suggested stop durations are editorial estimates and exclude travel to and from the area. Adjust for closures and your group’s energy.

Stop 1 of 3

Begin: the house and entrance area

Get a map at check-in and visit the house according to its opening arrangements. Ask staff for the ramp if needed, and keep doorways clear while photographing.

Stop 2 of 3

Middle: the formal gardens

Follow one garden path, noticing colors, hedges and water features without expecting every bed to be in bloom. Rest before deciding whether to add a woodland walk.

Stop 3 of 3

Optional extension: open redwood areas and trails

Use only routes open on the day and leave enough time to return. Trails close half an hour before the estate. If tired, finish in the garden and return to your parking area or pickup point.

Navigate to 86 Cañada Road, Woodside. Follow staff parking directions; rideshare pickup and drop-off are in the main lot area, and a return plan helps. Stairless routes still include brick, gravel and grass, and wheelchairs or walkers are not available to borrow. Regular strollers are welcome; wagons and stroller wagons are not. Use designated picnic tables near the entrance instead of picnicking in the gardens or grounds.
