San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade 2027: the Year of the Ram night parade

The Year of the Ram night parade, Market Street to Chinatown

San Francisco’s yearly Chinese New Year night parade, in 2027 for the Year of the Ram: it starts at 2nd and Market Streets, goes around Union Square and ends at Kearny Street and Columbus Avenue, about 1.3 miles. The organiser says it lasts about two and a half hours and is not cancelled for rain.

Before you go

  • Chinese culture theme: a Lunar New Year event, not a Chinese-language class; the organiser does not say whether help in Chinese is offered.

  • You can stand anywhere behind the barricades; it gets more crowded closer to Chinatown. Bleacher sections A, B and C are ticketed; the organiser suggests checking in by 4 pm, and police start closing streets around 3 pm.

  • Free accessible viewing areas line the route, and each bleacher section sells accessible seats at the same price. Children 2 and under sit free on a ticketed caregiver’s lap.
