Muwekma Ohlone tapestries at the Castro Valley Library

Lichen-dyed tapestries by Ohlone descendants, two afternoons

For Native American Heritage Month, the Castro Valley Library shows two tapestries by artist Kalie Granier and Muwekma Ohlone descendants Monica V. Arellano and Gloria E. Arellano-Gómez, coloured with lichen pigments from the Djerassi lands to reconnect the Muwekma Ohlone with ancestral land.

Before you go

  • On Nov 7, 11am–1pm, the artist and Ohlone culture bearers talk about the project.

  • A lobby display on how the tapestries were made runs all November.
